For
the first time in 10 years, ANP was celebrated in December
and the theme of the party was Rancho Pinoy's 10th Year
Anniversary. Close to 110 attendees gathered once again
before the year ended to give thanks and praise to our
Lord. New member, Brother Cery de Guzman opened the festivity
with a very inspiring prayer and right then I knew that
the whole evening was blessed to become a great night.
Once again, Vilma Valera and Jack Romero hosted the program
that featured the captivating Helen Schoening, who sang
3 songs at the delight of the crowd. Her version of the
Titanic drew the best applause of the evening. Jay Christopherson
said, "My pledge of $50 was worth it." Also
a crowd favorite was Vivian Arcega who sang a Zsa Zsa
Padilla classic. The crowd wanted an encore but Vivian
was too sick to sing another song. We also had a Filipino
Youth group sing a couple of Christmas Carols, while all
were teary eyed when Edith Umali sang a Joey Albert Tagalog
song in memory of our lost members this year.
The highlight of
the evening was the passing of torch between exiting
President, Vicky Antiporda and new President of Rancho
Pinoy Atbp, Melanie Sinex. Melanie is recovering from
minor surgery and was not able to attend the party.
While the crowd was sad to see our old President step
down, Vicky assured the crowd that she is confident
that Melanie will bring new ideas to the table and will
help the organization become more successful. Antiporda's
3 year legacy has brought the organization to another
level. Vicky drove the campaign to help internationally
when the group garnered 37 boxes filled with food and
clothing, and close to $500 for our kababayans in Quezon
after the country's devastating typhoon and landslide.
Antiporda also started the first picnic which generated
over $900 in charity funds for Bantay Bata 163 in 2004.
Vicky's leadership has not only help increase our fund
raising but also help provide a new image to our organization.
In 2004, ABS-CBN named Rancho Pinoy as the central repository
of
charitable goods in Sacramento and our membership has
risen to more than 500 members. Vicky will continue
to serve in the Steering Committee and will help Melanie
Sinex during her term.
In the Pledge for
a Song fund raiser, 18 singers were pledged to sing
a song and at the very top was Juhn Lanta's "Kapalaran"
that brought the house down. Juhn's singing skills gave
other members the courage to stand up render their songs.
Other performers, to name a few were last year's best
duet performers, Amor Zapanta and Elvis Matutis, Louie
Arana and Andy Arroyo. Special thanks to the Zapanta
and Moskaira family who did an awesome job in decorating
the place and to our major sponsors, Mike Nicolas, Jun
Dizon, Ginnie Dizon, Lulu Romero and Juhn Lanta. May
your blessings be multiplied more in the coming new
year. Thank you as well to those who gave their pledges
for the Special Children of Rancho Cordova. They are
the Christophersons, Sohls, Jacintos, Regalas, Lantas,
Mascarinas, Zapantas, Antipordas, Bauer, Morrow, Armorida,
Phillips, Calma, Ogoy, Vivar and Arroyo. By the end
of the evening, we were able to raise over $700 through
our Pledge For a Song fund raising. * (Click on the
